About This Enhanced Converter:

Purpose: This tool converts grades from your university's grading scale to the standardized 4.0 scale and calculates both cumulative GPA (cGPA) and weighted/adjusted GPA as used by different medical schools.

GPA Types Calculated:

  • Cumulative GPA (cGPA): All courses included, weighted by credits
  • Adjusted/Weighted GPA: Calculated by dropping worst academic year (when applicable)
  • Two Best Years GPA: Uses only your two highest-performing academic years
  • Three Most Recent Years GPA: Uses your three most recent academic years

Medical School GPA Requirements:

  • Drop Worst Year: University of Calgary, University of Alberta
  • Drop 30 Worst Credits: University of British Columbia
  • Credit-Based Dropping: University of Manitoba (15-30 credits based on total)
  • Two Best Years: Western University
  • Two Most Recent Years: Dalhousie University
  • Three Most Recent Years: University of Ottawa
  • Standard cGPA: University of Toronto, McMaster, Queen's, McGill

How to Use:

  1. Select your university from the dropdown menu
  2. Add your courses and enter grades exactly as they appear on your transcript
  3. Enter credit hours for each course (essential for accurate calculations)
  4. Select the academic year for each course - this determines year-based calculations
  5. The 4.0 scale equivalent will be calculated automatically
  6. Click "Calculate cGPA & Weighted GPA" to see all applicable GPA calculations

Important Notes:

  • Academic years with fewer than 18 credits may not qualify for "worst year" dropping
  • For percentage-based scales, enter the numerical value (e.g., "85" for 85%)
  • For letter grades, enter the exact letter (e.g., "A", "B+", "C-")
  • This converter is for reference only - always verify with official sources
  • Different medical schools use different calculation methods - check their specific requirements
